Specimen Requirements |
Urine: Transfer 2 mL of first-catch urine sample to the Aptima Urine Specimen Transport Tube. Endocervical swabs: Incyte swab (preferred) or Aptima Unisex Collection kit. Male urethral swabs: Aptima Unisex Collection kit. Vaginal Swabs: Incyte swab (preferred) or Aptima Multitest Swab Collection kit. Throat or rectal swabs: Aptima Multitest Swab Collection kit.

Required Information |
Complete the Incyte Diagnostics requisition with the patient's demographics and relevant clinical history. Label specimen container with the patient's full first and last name, second unique identifier, and specimen source/site. |

Stability |
Incyte swab specimens are stable for 21 days following initial collection.
Aptima Multitest and Unisex swabs are stable for 60 days at ambient temperature after collection. A urine collection is stable for 30 days at ambient temperature preserved in the collection vial.
ThinPrep specimens remain stable indefinitely at ambient temperature. |

Unacceptable Specimen Conditions |
Improper or inadequate patient identification, specimen in expired or incorrect collection vials. In a urine collection, the liquid level must fall between the two black indicator lines on the tube label or the specimen will be rejected. Vials with no swab, swabs that are not part of the collection, and specimens received in incorrect fixative (such as formalin). Orders off ThinPrep specimens must arrive prior to testing. |
